Tens of thousands of customers in Bergen and Passaic counties were briefly without power on New Years Eve, according to multiple reports and the PSEG website.

About 40,000 customers in northern New Jersey went dark Tuesday evening for just under an hour starting at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The outages were caused a problem at the Fair Lawn switching station, and primarily affected customers in Fair Lawn, Ridgewood, Hawthorne and Paterson, according to a PSEG spokeswoman.

At the height there were 40,000 without power, but it has been restored entirely, according to the utility company.

"Crews responded 2 an area outage affecting custs is Passaic & Bergen co. All customers affected by that outage are now restored," PSEG tweeted at 7:13 p.m.

It sure is a good thing they put in those hideously ugly new poles, just to see to it that things like this wouldn't happen.

Seriously? Sour grapes. The poles are irrelevant. And, Patch writers, almost all of Glen Rock was out.

Looks like the relief hamster running around the wheel was late for work.

It sure is a good thing they put in those hideously ugly new poles so the outage lasted only 20 minutes instead of three days ;-)

Chris, preventing outages was an argument PSE&G used for putting in the poles against resident wishes. The point is that the poles didn't help.
