Vandal Paints Swastika on Fair Lawn Home, Police Say

Police are considering the vandalism a bias incident.

A vandal painted a swastika, "BROTHAL" and "DRUG DLR" on the front of a Hartley Place home sometime overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler.

The graffiti was scrubbed off within a few hours, but residue from the red paint remained on the door and siding Friday afternoon.

Police took a statement from the home's resident, but did not immediately have a suspect, according to Metzler. They are treating the vandalism as a bias incident because of the inclusion of the swastika, he said.

Metzler said he was not aware of the house being used as a brothel or of any drug dealing occurring there.

No one answered the door when a reporter visited the house Thursday morning or Friday afternoon.
