A vandal painted a swastika, "BROTHAL" and "DRUG DLR" on the front of a Hartley Place home sometime overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler.

The graffiti was scrubbed off within a few hours, but residue from the red paint remained on the door and siding Friday afternoon.

Police took a statement from the home's resident, but did not immediately have a suspect, according to Metzler. They are treating the vandalism as a bias incident because of the inclusion of the swastika, he said.

Metzler said he was not aware of the house being used as a brothel or of any drug dealing occurring there.

No one answered the door when a reporter visited the house Thursday morning or Friday afternoon.

Janice from the negativity of your posts it seems that you have a grudge against the police. Even news stories that are simply reporting stuff that is reported to the police elicit your hatred towards the police. I say, get your life together and maybe you'll see the police in a different light.

I see a use for a brothel in Fair Lawn, that house sure looks like one, any truth that it may be?

Janice what does this story have to do with the police? "They suck", lol ,you would probably be the first one screaming the loudest if there were no police. But back to the story. This is kids doing stupid things, kids know a swastika's gets a rise out of adults. Probably 80% of kids dont know the real story behind it. This house has a reputation in Fair Lawn as being a little strange. It was always an interesting house going back to the 30's when it was Deans Auto Body. William Dean Sr. made the original Radburn signs on Plaza and Berdan (they were stolen a few years ago). Janice you will need the police someday you should lighten up a little.

I grew up across the street from this house. Bill and Tessa Dean were the nicest people you could imagine. When they built a second floor on the house, their daughter and her husband moved in and had a baby there. I moved from across the street after that so I don't know if the house was sold, but if it's still in the Dean family, I doubt if they are Nazi's, Anti-Semitic, drug dealers or running a house of prostitution.

Eddie Do you mean Bil Jr.l and Dorothy? Bill Jr got the house after Bill Sr. died. They had a little girl named Lynn. The house was sold to the current owner by Lynn and her mother (Dorothy) My father and I added the second floor in the mid 70's. I was married to Lynn at that time. It is sad how shabby the new owner kept it. Dorothy died 3 yrs ago. Lynn moved to East Brunswick after the sale of the house. Lol it is funny how rumors start.

Tony, I mean bill Senior. When I was a little kid and I used to go across the street and pester him while he was puttering around the grounds. As a teenager I wanted to buy the transmission out of the rusting Cadillac LaSalle he had sitting on the side of the house (they were very popular among hot rodders) but somebody had beat me to it. I remember the second floor going up and the blonde girl and her husband moving in there. I thought she was Bill and Tessa's daughter,,,,,or maybe daughter-in-law. After that I moved.

Tony, maybe the occupants of the 2nd floor were Bill Jr. and Dorothy? (Blonde) And maybe the baby she had was Lynn? Just speculating. I'm 70 now so this goes way, way back.

Police suck? What kind of stupid comment is that? Next time you need help, ask a criminal. Or better yet, spend some time in jail and familiarize yourself with some of the residents there. Ever have a criminal point a gun at you? Ever been a victim of violence? Ever had your possessions stolen or destroyed? You'll see who comes to help, and it won't be your local criminals. Then think about whether the police "suck".

Eddie That was a blond little boy , my son Greg ,Lynn was my wife. In 1972 I got out of the Navy and moved in there with Lynn and Greg.
