Violent Crash on Route 208 Leaves Four Injured

One driver has been arrested for DWI after police claim he lost control of the Infiniti he was driving while merging onto Route 208 South, striking another vehicle.

One driver is likely facing DWI charges for his alleged role in a violent accident Monday morning that sent four people to the hospital, including two of his passengers.

According to , the driver of a blue Infiniti G35 lost control while attempting to merge onto Route 208 South from Saddle River Road, crossing a grass median and striking another vehicle on the front side at around 6:30 a.m.

A total of four people were rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center following the wreck, which closed off the left express lane on Route 208.

The male driver and front seat female passenger of the Infiniti suffered serious head injuries, police said. The front seat passenger was unconscious when emergency responders arrived. The female passenger in the back seat also reported injuries.

The driver of the small SUV that was struck suffered minor neck and leg injuries in the crash, according to police.

The driver of the Infiniti, according to Sgt. James Krizek, has been arrested and is expected to be charged with DWI. His identity was not immediately released.

The express left lane on 208 S. remains closed several hours later as police and investigators from the Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit remain on scene reconstructing the accident based on the physical evidence in the road and the damage to the vehicles. Traffic in the remaining local lane is moving at a snail's pace.

Saddle River Road at Morlot in the southbound direction is also closed.
