Wallington Man Accused of Saddle Brook Sexual Assault Before Serious Accident

Harry Halvorsen III faces charges for crash that seriously injured his passenger and for the alleged assault of an incapacitated person earlier that day.

A Wallington man who faces charges for a fiery car accident last month on Route 46 has been accused of sexually assaulting an incapacitated person earlier that same day in Saddle Brook, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said.

Harry Halvorsen III, 25, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with first-degree aggravated and third-degree assault by auto.

Halvorsen, who was unlicensed, had previously been charged with hindering apprehension and one count of being involved in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in serious bodily injury while unlicensed or suspended.

According to Prosecutor John Molinelli, Halvorsen was involved in a serious two-car crash on Route 46 East in Elmwood Park on March 12. A passenger in Halvorsen's vehicle suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident, Molinelli said.

The investigation revealed Halvorsen engaged in sexual activity with a victim "whom he knew or should have known was physically helpless or mentally incapacitated," Molinelli said.

Halvorsen has been remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail with no 10 percent option. He will make his first appearance in Bergen County Central Municipal Court at 1:30 p.m. on May 2.
