Elmwood Park to Pay Fair Lawn For Construction Official

The Fair Lawn Council voted this week to enter a four-year interlocal agreement.

Elmwood Park will pay Fair Lawn $56,000 per year for the next four years under a new interlocal agreement approved by the Fair Lawn Council this week.

The two towns will share Fair Lawn's construction official, building subcode official and zoning official starting October 1 and lasting through September 30, 2017, according to the resolution approving the agreement. The three positions are filled by one person.

Agreements like this one have been touted by Gov. Chris Christie as necessary for saving taxpayer money.

Mayor John Cosgrove said that the borough pursues interlocal agreements and shared services whenever they can, such as the current vehicle maintenance services they provide for Fair Lawn Schools.
