Empty Lot Considered For New Passive Pocket Park

Residents were polled on how they thought the property on the corner of Heights Avenue and Loretto avenue should be used.

An empty lot on the corner of Heights and Loretta Avenues is could become Fair Lawn's newest park.

A building on the small piece of property, which was home over the years to Fire Company 2, the Rescue Squad and the PBA, was demolished a few years ago. It has been vacant ever since.

The borough attempted to sell the lot twice, unsuccessfully, so officials polled residents on how they'd like to see the property used.

The new "passive" park will likely just have some benches, a path and plants. It won't contain any playground equipment or sports facilities.

The council is expected to vote on authorizing an application for a grant for the park during their August 5 meeting.
