Fair Lawn Applies For Grants For Park, Historic Building

The matching grants from the county would total $45,000, if awarded.

The Fair Lawn Council voted to apply for two grants from the Bergen County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund during their most recent meeting.

One of the sought grants would provide $20,000 for a new passive pocket park planned to be built on a borough-owned empty lot on the corner of Heights and Loretta Avenues.

The other grant would provide $25,000 for the preparation of construction documents for a project to renovate the historic Naugle House, another borough-owned property. The 18th-century home has fallen into disrepair and currently has its windows boarded up.

The council also voted during the meeting to enter an agreement with the county for a $50,000 matching grant recently awarded to Fair Lawn for the planned barrier-free playground to be built at Berdan Grove. The playground will allow children of differing physical abilities to play side-by-side.
