Fair Lawn Approves More ADA Playground Funding

The borough received a $30,000 matching grant from Bergen County to go toward the planned Berdan Grove inclusionary playground.

The financial pieces of the Berdan Grove inclusionary playground puzzle are falling into place.

The Fair Lawn Council approved a resolution this week making an agreement with Bergen County for a $30,000 matching grant to go toward the project, which is expected to start in the spring.

The grant came from the 2009 Bergen County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Trust Fund and had previously been set for a skate park, but was later moved to the playground project as officials have had trouble finding a location to put the skate park.

The inclusionary playground will allow children of differing physical abilities to play side-by-side on the equipment.

Because of the high costs of the project, it has been split into several phases. The first portion being built next year is expected to cost $130,000. The borough also recently received a $50,000 matching grant from the county for the project.

The playground project has been spearheaded by Fair Lawn's ADA Advisory Committee. Anyone who wants to donate to the project can send a check payable to "The Borough of Fair Lawn / ADA Committee" to:
