Fair Lawn Awards Water Tower Paint Job Contract

Work on the project to sandblast and re-paint the Morlot Avenue water tower is expected to start in the next few weeks.

A long-awaited project to clean and re-paint Fair Lawn's water tower is set to start in a few weeks and could be finished by the end of the year, according to Mayor John Cosgrove.

The Fair Lawn Council approved a resolution Tuesday awarding a $1,495,369 contract to U.S. Tank Painting, Inc. of Millstone Township for the project.

Besides cleaning up the increasingly rusty appearance of the Morlot Avenue water tank, the project will include sandblasting to remove old lead paint that was covered by more recent coats. Cleaning and re-painting the tower is also necessary to protect it against deterioration

During the sandblasting, the contractors will use a tent around the tower to protect nearby residents from debris.

The water tower was last painted in 1995.

The council also previously approved a $78,300 contract with Utility Service Co. of Bridgewater, Mass. to provide construction inspection services for the project.
