Fair Lawn Wins $2K Sustainability Grant

Sustainable Jersey recognized Fair Lawn with bronze certification last year.

A program which encourages New Jersey towns to use environmentally-friendly practices recently awarded a $2,000 grant to Fair Lawn.

The borough earned a bronze certification from Sustainable Jersey last year and had previously won grants from the program. The new grant recognizes Fair Lawn's ongoing efforts and is intended to assist the Green Team.

"With this grant, Fair Lawn will continue its efforts to become a green, sustainable community through cooperative efforts and the planning and coordination of our Green Team’s 'Sense and Sustainability' programs," Mayor John Cosgrove said in a press release.

Fair Lawn has previously used Sustainable Jersey grants to pay for an energy audit of four borough-owned buildings and an update to the Environmental Resource Inventory.

Sustainable Jersey is awarding $380,000 in grants this year to support "community efforts to reduce waste, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and improve environmental equity."

"The impact that these projects will make in New Jersey is incredible," Sustainable Jersey Board of Trustees Chair Pam Mount said in a press release. "Aiding towns and Green Teams to achieve their sustainability goals by funding green initiatives will have a ripple effect that will benefit us all."
