Saddle Brook Council Candidates Debate at Senior Center

Saddle Brook council candidates will convene Thursday night at the Saddle Brook Senior Center to debate issues that affect the community.

Six candidates vying for three seats on the Saddle Brook Township council will square off Thursday in a debate at the Saddle Brook Senior Center.

Candidates Florence Mazzer, Omar Rodriguez and Joseph Camilleri are running as Democrats, while candidates Andrew Cimiluca, S. Vincent Montagna and Gerard Taylor are running as Republicans.

Mazzer (D) and Cimiluca (R) are both sitting council members running for re-election, and Rodriguez (D), a former council president, has been the current council's fiercest critic throughout the election run-up. Although Mazzer and Rodriguez are both Democrats, the councilwoman said she is not running with Rodriguez.

Joseph Setticase (D) had been on the Demcratic ticket until last month when he removed his name from consideration. Camilleri (D) took Setticase's place on the Democratic ticket, and is running with Rodriguez.

Each candidate in Thursday's debate will be allowed a 1.5-minute opening statement before taking questions from the audience on township policy issues.

After each audience question, both parties will have 2 minutes to answer, alternating first responses. No rebuttals are permitted.

To close, each candidate will deliver a 3-minute statement in reverse order of opening statements.

The debate, which is being moderated by the League of Women Voters of Bergen County, begins at 7:30 p.m. Saddle Brook Creative TV, an internet audio/video website run be retired Saddle Brook police officer Len Azzarone, is expected to stream the debate live online.
