Lifelong Saddle Brook resident Joseph Camilleri will replace Councilman Joseph Setticase as a Democratic township council candidate on this November's ballot, Democratic Municipal Chairman Omar Rodriguez announced Wednesday.
Camilleri, 52, has been an active township volunteer for more than a decade, serving as a youth sports coach in football, wrestling and baseball.
He issued a statement late Wednesday thanking Democratic Party leaders for giving him the opportunity to join the council race.
"As a life-long resident of Saddle Brook, I have fond memories of this wonderful town growing up," the statement reads. "I would love to be elected and move Saddle Brook in the right direction."
Camilleri, a unanimous selection of the County Committee, will replace the 16-year council veteran Setticase, who , saying he wanted to take a break from politics to spend more time with his family.
Camilleri was unavaiable for comment Wednesday night, but Rodriguez said that, unlike Setticase, he is a strong supporter of .
