Sen. Gordon, County Officials Among Birdshall Donation Recipients

The bankrupt engineering firm illegally donated to numerous politicians across New Jersey, according to a Star-Ledger report.

Numerous Bergen County politicians received donations made illegally by engineering firm Birdsall Services Group between 2008 and 2012, The Star-Ledger reported Sunday.

The company allegedly made more than 1,000 donations during that time worth more than $1 million, while raking in public contracts worth $84 million, according to the report.

The donations broke party lines, the paper reported. Among the local recepients were Fair Lawn's Sen. Bob Gordon, 2008 and 2010 Democrat Saddle Brook Council candidates, Asw. Connie Wagner, Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan, Freeholder David Ganz and Clerk John Hogan, as well as numerous groups like the District 38 Democrats and Bergen County Republican Organization.

The firm made a total of 80 donations in Bergen County, according to the Star-Ledger.

Seven company officials were indicted earlier this year on charges that they allegedly made the illegal donations by having employees make the donations, then reimbursing them. New Jersey law sets a maximum political campaign donation of $300.

Pay politicians a $1million to give you $84million in contracts. Imagine if you or I could invest and get that kind of return. Birdsall also lets the politicians know that they are buying influence, so no recipient can claim ignorance

Your story as it relates to me is offensive and dead wrong. As reported by the Bergen Record today, the contributions I received from Birdsall were legal donations provided in the form of corporate checks that were all publicly reported as required by state law. While some candidates received illegal donations from Birdsall employees, I did not. I would also point out that when rumors began circulating about inappropriate activity at Birdsall in 2010, I removed the firm from my solicitation list, For that reason, I have not received a contribution from Birdsall for three years. I would encourage you to get your facts straight before you impugn someone's reputation. Senator Bob Gordon

Its terrible that Kathe Donovan who was endorsed by Bergen ex Ft Lee Mayor Burt Ross (who went undercover by the FBI to record bribes) is now caught secretly taking actual cash from a corrupt firm. Donovan must resign for holding herself out as a reformer and now caught taking fraud money.
