Fair Lawn Schools Use New Channels to Reach Community

Fair Lawn Schools now have their own smartphone app and Facebook page. Videos of school board meetings are posted online.

Fair Lawn school officials have recently undergone several initiatives in order to promote transparency and help spread the word about district happenings and announcements, according to Superintendent Bruce Watson.

The most recent addition is a new smartphone app, announced online last week, which provides a shortcut to announcement and other info posted on the district's website. It is freely available for both iPhones here and Android devices here.

"It's a handy, quick reference," Watson said.

School officials have also launched a Facebook page for the district which features photos and news from school events.

Parents can also sign up for reverse 911 calls from school principals to give a heads-up on school happenings like schedule changes, assemblies and meetings they may want to attend.

The school board has been the driving force behind the increasing openness, Watson said. Videos recorded at their meetings can now be watched on the district's website here.

"We believe that we have an outstanding school district," Watson said. "We want to get more of what we do out there."
