Officials 'Deeply Regret' Teacher's Tirade, BOE President Says

A Fair Lawn High School teacher is on leave while the superintendent investigates a video posted online.

Fair Lawn Board of Education President Michael Rosenberg issued a statement on behalf of the board Wednesday after a video reportedly showing a Fair Lawn High School teacher berating a student gained thousands of views online and numerous media outlets reported on the event.

Rosenberg's message, posted on the district website, stated:

"The Board of Education and Administration deeply regret the incident that took place in the classroom at Fair Lawn High School. First and foremost, we share the dismay and concern expressed by members of our community. What happened in the classroom is not excusable and should not have happened. We do not condone this type of behavior in any form, in any place, by any person associated with our District. Our administration is actively investigating this incident and will continue to do what is right, legal and fair in conducting the investigation and making a recommendation for appropriate action to the Board. While we understand the public’s desire for more information, we hope as well that you will understand we are legally constrained in the amount of information we can release."

The teacher was on leave this week while school officials conducted their investigation
