River Road Attracts New Businesses

Businesses in Fair Lawn have been supported through groups like the Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Corporation and River Road Improvement Corporation.

Several new businesses have opened on River Road in the past few months, a sign that the efforts of groups like the River Road Improvement Corporation may be paying off for Fair Lawn.

Some of those businesses have included new shops like Fashion Affair Boutique, Footgear Galore and Z-Licious, among others.

The owners of those shops told Patch they liked the River Road location because of its location and the foot traffic. Sarah Zadoroznyj of Z-Licious also pointed to the River Road street fair as helping give them a boost when they first opened.

"There's younger people coming to town. A lot of them want to stay off the highways and shop around town," Stu Herrmann from the River Road Improvement Corporation said.

The Corporation, along with the Economic Development Corporation, Fair Lawn Chamber of Commerce and the borough have organized a number of efforts to help promote businesses in the River Road District and other parts of town. Along River Road, those have included events like the street fair and car show, cooperative promotions and giveaways.

"It's a great place for small businesses to come into town," Herrmann said.

He also credited an active social media presence and cooperative advertising as important parts of their strategy. The River Road Improvement Corporation is also looking to add some new events next year.
