Meet Fair Lawn High's 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

The Fair Lawn High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducting this year's class Saturday.

The Fair Lawn High School Athletic Hall of Fame is set to induct its 2013 class of honorees at a ceremony Saturday.

The induction celebration is an all-day event with a breakfast and Hall of Fame walk-through at 10 a.m. in the high school, the Hall of Fame football game vs. Clifton at 1 p.m. on the new Sasso Field and a 6 p.m. cocktail hour and 7 p.m. dinner at the Knights of Columbus on Maple Avenue.

This year's inductees include:

Ron Carti (football, basketball, class of '92), who earned a total of five varsity letters, was named All-County and All-League for basketball and All-State, AllLeague, All-County, Bergen Record’s Athlete of the Week and New York Daily News Athlete of the Week for his role as the Cutters' quarterback. 

Sara Lang Feinstein (softball, class of '96), who earned varsity letters for softball all four years and was named 1st Team All-Suburban 1995 and 1996, 1st Team All-Bergen County 1995, 2nd Team All-Bergen County 1996, 1st Team All-Area 1996, Group 4 All-State Team, Bergen v. Passaic All-Star Team 1996 and lead Bergen County in home runs in 1995 with seven.

Dr. Ron Liss (lacrosse, class of '67), who was selected for New Jersey's first All-State Lacrosse team and continued to play in college, where he was named All American First Team and played in the North-South All Star game. Liss also went undefeated in both the light heavyweight and heavy weight division in boxing in his spare time.

Jackie Lynn Passero (softball, soccer, basketball, class of '96), who earned 10 varsity letters and was named two-time All-Bergen County softball team, two-time All-Suburban, Herald News 1st Team All-Area, Ridgewood News Sophomore of the Year and Group 4 All-State Team.

James Montalbano (lacrosse, soccer, class of '71), who as lacrosse goalie made honorable mention All State Lacrosse in 1971 and was the starting goalie in the All-Star Lacrosse game. Montalbano also went on to play in college, where he was twice named First Team Goalie All-Knickerbocker Conference.

Bob Straight (football, wrestling, class of '55), who was selected by the Newark Star Ledger and the Newark News as its first string guard on their all-state Group 3 teams and all league/county by the Bergen Evening Record. He earned a total of six varsity letters between football and wrestling.

Coach Jack Smithlin (softball, soccer), who brought the girls soccer team to the county and state tournaments for the first time in school history, guided the JV softball team to two county finals and brought the varisty softball team to the county tournament and the state tournament eight times, making the finals twice and winning one championship.

The 1995 and 1996 softball teams and the 1955 football team will also be inducted. A special award will also be given to John "Roddy" Hughes, a longtime active resident in youth sports and founder of the Fair Lawn High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
