Saddle Brook's Maneri Enjoys Career Day in Chiefs' Loss

Saddle Brook native Steve Maneri, in his first year as a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, caught four passes for 45 yards in the team's 38-10 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Saddle Brook native Steve Maneri set career highs in both receptions and receiving yards Sunday in the Kansas City Chiefs' 38-10 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The third-year pro, in his first season as a tight end after converting from offensive tackle in the offseason, hauled in four passes for 45 yards to lead the Chiefs' receiving attack. It was the best offensive performance by a Chiefs' tight end this season.

Maneri, who has been the Chiefs' backup tight end since Week 2 when starter Kevin Boss was lost for the season to a head injury, has five catches for 55 yards on the year.

While Maneri's performance likely benefited from the chemistry he's developed on the practice field with Chiefs' second-string quarterback Brady Quinn, who was under center Sunday, the rest of the team continued to struggle. Sunday's loss dropped the Chiefs to 1-5 on the year, tied with the Cleveland Browns for the worst record in the NFL.

The Chiefs, who are off this week, host the division-rival Oakland Raiders in Week 8.
