Fair Lawn Hosting Junior Police Academy

Registration is open for the "Take The Challenge" program, which starts July 22.

Fair Lawn Police will host the free "Take The Challenge" Junior Police Academy for children aged 10 to 15 from July 22 through July 26 at Westmoreland School.

Fair Lawn Police Officers will teach the "recruits" about criminal investigations, missing and abducted children, self-defense, and the hazards of drug use, among other police-related topics.

The academy features demonstrations from the Fair Lawn Police Department, Fire Department, Heavy Rescue Squad, Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Bergen County Police Department K-9 Unit and the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit. There will also be trips to the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Complex in Mahwah, the Bergen County Courthouse in Hackensack and the Sheriff Department’s Bureau of Criminal Identification.

Space in the academy is limited and preference will be given to first-time attendees on a first come, first served basis. To sign up, pick up an application at the Police Department by July 18.
