yo tommy! strap on the banana hammock and go down the slide. awesome!!!
Tommy P June 26, 2012 at 06:14 PM
Just because a bad practice has been occurring is not justification for continuing it. It's wrong that there is nepostism at Boro Hall and the Board of Ed. I am not saying we should close them all, just change the way they are funded. Why should elderly people and families on tight budgets subsidize your entertainment?
Mei Won Sum June 26, 2012 at 06:23 PM
who gives a s**t! you need a new groovy planet bra! that crap is done everywhere. as for the elderly, they should come on down. bikinis, banana hammocks, one piece.. who cares!! lets all show some love. bring some freaky deaky stickers too. i'm gonna wear a loin cloth!!
great video June 26, 2012 at 06:53 PM
people should subsidize entertainment because they CHOSE to live in a town that has ALWAYS subsidized entertainment. people chose to live in fair lawn because the "entertainment" and services make it a great community. the pool provides families on a tight budget a fun place to enjoy the summer, since people on a tight budget can not afford a nice vacation or multiple trips down the shore because of gas, tolls, and having to pay to access nj beaches. also provides a place for people to work during the summer to help our local college kids pay for school or contribute to thier families tight budget. also kids who cant afford books, videos etc are able to get them from the library. so these 'entertainment' services actually help the families on a tight budget. i am at the age that i am considered elderly- my elderly friends are jealous of the services fair lawn provides for its elderly. i stay active and healthy thanks to FL. once again if you purchased a house in fair lawn expecting not to subsidize these services- plain and simple you are an idiot and made a bad choice. however if you purchased a house in fair lawn expecting to pay additional fees to be part of a great community than you made the right choice.

Hey Shroomy, shoukdnt you be spending your time lobbying for pot decriminalization
Ed Rooney June 26, 2012 at 09:21 PM
Well said. tommy- I say this man to man with no malice intended....you should really take a break from Patch and reevaluate your views. Try and understand how other people experience you negativity. Perhaps then, you will find yourself a happier individual. You are blessed to live here- if you don't understand that and if this is not the place for you, find another with a culture you prefer.

Welcome to Fair Lawn
Jack Donohue June 26, 2012 at 09:24 PM
seeing as how many sand bottom pools are NOT this clear... it seems like a good thing to me... As a fair lawn resident since 1955, i have many years of memorial memories... my own as a child, and with my kids as well. Post what ever you will... but kindly don;t twist what I post to bolster your opinion.

It's illegal?
Sylvia Weintraub June 27, 2012 at 11:23 AM
Last night at the council meeting the agenda had the managers contract.
FL-Rez June 27, 2012 at 11:43 AM
Did you look at the video? Most of the video is close up and gives an impression that the beach has a substantial amount of people, second take a look at the interview with the Director, there is very few people behind him on the beach area and across the other side of the pool. I suggest we look beyond what is in front of us for the real answers. To those who ask, yes I do use the pool. I just don’t like being played and I don’t like poor management.
Sylvia Weintraub June 27, 2012 at 01:28 PM
All these out of towners, as a senior citizen i'm alittle frightened going to memorial pool, nobody lives in Fair Lawn who goes there anymore!
Tommy P June 27, 2012 at 01:36 PM
@GreatVideo The irony is part of the reason people are on tight budget is the out of control spending on the municipal level. Most people do not benefit from the government entertainment programs. Even those who do would be better served with private entertainment, if we removed the premium the average homeowner pays for these services, the savings alone would fund better options. If we didn't spend tax dollars on these things, the money the average person savings could be used for better facilities. I believe in community pools, I am a member of 3 including 2 right here in Fair Lawn. I just know government should not be funding them. We over pay for what we get. We are about to fill in Walsh pool at a cost of $35k to "save" $35k for a skate park that will add costs to the borough. We spend a small fortune on Memorial which will lose money again this year. Its time we stop the suffering for tax payers and have a non-profit run the pool which manages the costs and development of both facilities. This approach wouldn't make Fair Lawn unique but it would improve the value of homes and improve the quality of our pools. @Ed: I am a happy old man, life has been good to me. I work because I want to, I am a life long Republican a "break from the patch" is not going to change my values. I believe in small government which means maximum freedom. There is lots to love in Fair Lawn, but no place is perfect. Want to criticize me for wanting a better Fair Lawn, have it.
uh oh June 27, 2012 at 01:44 PM
so people who dont live in fair lawn are scary? is there a way to look at someone and tell whether they are a fair lawn resident or not? if "out of towners" pay to use the pool and follow the rules, than they belong there just as much as an FL resident. im really curious why this "frightens" you. do you think an out of towner is going to steal from you or assualt you in front of 100s of people in broad day light?
majority June 27, 2012 at 01:53 PM
@ tommy- our elected officials decide what services we keep, add, or take away. this year many people running for council openly said if they were elected they would support the pool, library, and keep as many services as they could. if the majority of our residents did not support these services they could have voted for a candidate who also did not support these services. if our elected officials are the ones who support these services that means the majority of the town supports these services.

I just drove past Memorial Pool. Other thean the camps there is less than 100 people are on the beach. How many are Fl residents?
envious June 28, 2012 at 05:58 PM

Children pee in the pool. That's why.
Billy Mays June 30, 2012 at 06:56 PM
The place is a dump.
Billy Mays June 30, 2012 at 08:21 PM
Brilliant contribution. Not even a complete sentence.
Billy Mays June 30, 2012 at 08:22 PM
If you drive by after the bars close at 2:00 a.m. of course the place would be empty.
Billy Mays June 30, 2012 at 08:23 PM
You are afraid of your own shadow. Get a bodyguard so you can go shopping and to the pool too.
Billy Mays June 30, 2012 at 08:25 PM
The video was taken during the clothing-optional hour and all the nudists ran for cover when they saw the camera and interview with the Director. The place is a big hang out where you can't pin a thing on the nudist bathers.
Billy Mays June 30, 2012 at 08:26 PM
Mushroom, What about those who have constipation? Should they move too?
Billy Mays June 30, 2012 at 08:27 PM
Maybe your hubby and your neighbor ought to go to a doctor for some blood testing. They could have social diseases.
