American Legion Holding Annual Barbecue Picnic

The group is holding the event September 28 and seeking new members to join.

American Legion Post 171 will host their annual picnic September 28.

The post, located on River Road in Fair Lawn, will offer up a menu of burgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, corn on the cob, watermelon and more, as well as a DJ. The event costs $15 and is free for prospective members who qualify, according to Post 171 Second Vice Commander Michael Agosta.

To purchase tickets, call Agosta at 201-681-4399 by September 23.

The post is seeking new members to join the American Legion and plans to hold more events with that goal in mind, according to Agosta.

"We want to reach out to the younger veterans and get them involved," he said.

Membership benefits include assistance in obtaining earned veterans' benefits, a large support structure and a local community, according to Agosta.

To help attract younger members, the group will begin holding $1 beer nights on Wednesdays with pool and darts tournaments, starting September 18 at 7 p.m.
