Fair Lawn Rescue Squad Wins Governor's Award

The volunteer group has won the award two years in a row.

The Fair Lawn Rescue Squad won the "Governor’s Continued Excellence Award" at the 85 annual Governor's Occupational Safety & Health Awards May 23.

The squad has won the award, which is the highest given at the event, two years in a row. It is given to those who have participated in the saftey and health program for five or more years without work-related injuries or illnesses causing lost time.

"I'm always happy that we have a safe year," Rescue Squad Chief Peter Yuskaitis said.  "It's really a credit to the guys."

The program and its awards are open to any employer in New Jersey. More than 450 awards were give this year, though the Rescue Squad was one of just two emergency service groups across the state to win this year.

Yuskaitis attributed their safe record to the team's rigorous training schedule.
