Resident Pictured on Cheerios Box

Coming soon to a ShopRite store near you -- a Cheerios box with resident Maureen Kennedy's picture

A familiar face will greet local customers when they “give those O’s a go.”

As a result of her extraordinary fundraising efforts, Fair Lawn resident Maureen Kennedy’s picture is slated to appear on 150,000 special edition Cheerios boxes at participating ShopRite stores on the East Coast.

Kennedy, who works at the ShopRite in Rochelle Park, is being honored along with fellow employee Patricia Daubner for playing a large part in helping Shop Rite’s Partners in Caring charity reach its goal of raising $1 million to fight hunger.

For the duo's fundraising excellence, ShopRite has donated $500 to the charity of their choice – the Center for Food Action in Englewood.

Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan and Mayor Jeanne Baratta honored the pair on March 21 at the ShopRite of Rochelle Park.

“Bergen County is a wonderful county - the best there is,” Donovan said in a statement. “We have great wealth and great poverty and everything in between and we cannot help families in need without the help of places like the Shop Rite of Rochelle Park and people like the ones we have honored here today.”

Baratta recognized Kennedy at the March 27 council meeting and encouraged residents to look for her picture the next time they visit their local ShopRite store.

“There’s a Fair Lawn resident on that [Cheerios] box, so pick up that special commemorative box of Cheerios,” she said. “Congratulations to them for their hard work.”

The large commemorative Cheerios boxes with Kennedy's picture have been on ShopRite shelves since March 21.
