Council Candidate Forum, School Board Meeting, Senate Election This Week

Here's a look at the week ahead in Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook.

Municipal government offices will be closed Monday for Columbus Day.

Tuesday is the last day to register for the general election.

The Saddle Brook Planning Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the town hall.

Wednesday is the special senate election to fill the seat left by Frank Lautenberg.

A high school volunteer will be at the Fair Lawn Library from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to help with technology-related questions. Call 201-796-3400 ext. 5 to make an appointment.

Fair Lawn High School students and Mayor John Cosgrove will be handing out free reflective strips to commuters at the Radburn Train Station starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday as part of an effort to improve pedestrian safety.

The Fair Lawn Library is hosting weekly Scrabble games from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Preservation architect Eric Holtermann will make a presentation about the history of and restoration plans for Fair Lawn's historic Naugle House at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Fair Lawn Community Center.

The Fair Lawn Library will hold an open studio still life drawing session in the Pine Gallery at 7 p.m. Thursday. Participants should bring their own supplies.

The Fair Lawn Board of Education meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Edison School room 19. Superintendent Bruce Watson is expected to speak about the district's goals and present the regular violence and vandalism report.

The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a Fair Lawn Council candidates forum at 8 p.m. Thursday in the borough municipal building. Residents can submit questions to LWVfairlawn@gmail.com by 9 p.m. Wednesday or in person at the forum. Questions will be screened by members of the League.
