Fair Lawn Borough Recreation Department

The recreation department -- based out of the Fair Lawn Community Center on 20th street -- manages the borough'sMore parks, athletic fields, pools, and playgrounds. The department oversees organizations such as the Radio Club, Fair Lawn Art Association and Bridge Club.

Holiday celebrations and a number of volunteer efforts are also organized by the recreation department. The department's fitness programs include tennis lessons, basketball camps, softball leagues, street hockey, competitive volleyball and aerobics classes. Information on all of the department's sports programs can be viewed at www.flallsports.org.

Fair Lawn's senior center is also run by the recreation department. James Graff is the borough's superintendent of recreation.

Fair Lawn Community Center & Youth Center

The borough's community center offers a wide variety of adult, youth and cultural activities. Membership is free ofMore charge for Fair Lawn residents. Adults can access the computer center and fitness center, and take part in aerobics, badminton, basketball, karate, table tennis and volleyball. Or, they can take it easy in the card room, which features card games, chess and checkers, and on the less strenuous walking track.

Youth sports encompass all the same activities as the adults', plus access to the teen center, teen lounge and youth center. The youth center includes a full-size video arcade, air hockey tables, billiards, and large TVs.

Organizations like the Russian Club and the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club hold events at the community center, with drama and musical performances taking place in a 170-seat theater. The center is also available for rent for corporate events and seminars.

All Bright Center

All Bright Center provides enrichment courses for children in the fields of science, arts and sports. Age ranges forMore courses vary, but this center caters mostly to students from elementary school to high school. Courses include art, English, science, Russian language, Russian literature and math with a traditional European approach. Other programs include dance studios for all levels in areas such as hip-hop, modern dance, ballet and competition; a musical instrument conservatory for such disciplines as violin, piano, cello, guitar and voice; a vocal ensemble for all levels; and a program for toddlers that emphasizes traditional European techniques of learning. Parisi Speed School

The Fair Lawn Parisi Speed School opened in January 2001 and has become the flagship of all Parisi Speed SchoolsMore throughout the country, which includes more than 50 franchised networks. Upon entering it is easy to see why in 2009 Parisi was named one of the Top 10 Gyms in the United States by Men's Health Magazine. Half of the facility is dedicated to the Parisi Speed School, which boasts a 60 yard six lane track with the identical surface from the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games, a 35-yard turf field and a fully stocked weight training area. The other half of the facility is a Parisi Sports Club, a full upscale health club, physical therapy center and nutrition center with a juice bar. The 32,000 square foot facility is a must see for any athlete at any level.
Thomas Jefferson Middle School

Thomas Jefferson Middle School uses the house model, emphasizing the cultivation of a sense of ownership andMore identity for students and teachers and enabling them to develop close working relationships. Teams of four teachers meet regularly to plan learning activities or to discuss instructional strategies and student concerns.

Instrumental and choral music instruction is available in addition to core academic subjects, and extracurricular activities include intramural sports, drama club, math league and student council.

The school's Parent Teacher Organization publishes a newspaper and runs events such as Back to School Night, American Education Week and Education Recognition Night. To highlight respect and responsibility as cornerstones of the school, citizenship signs are posted in all classrooms and common areas.
