The Irvington native signed a 3-year, $6 million contract with the Jets in March.
Jets running back Mike Goodson was sent to a Morris County jail following his arrest on drug and weapons charges in Denville Friday. Goodson, 25, was the passenger in a GMC Yukon stopped in the left center lane of I-80 West when a tow truck came upon them and called 911 early Friday morning, according to multiple reports. The tow truck driver reportedly was concerned about the intoxicated condition in which he found Goodson and the driver of the Yukon. Goodson was transported to Saint Claire’s Hospital in nearby Boonton and eventually charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun, and possession of a hollow-point bullet, according to ESPN. The driver of the…

It was just a little drinking and smoking on the weekends in high school. It was just a little cocaine offered by a friend in college. It was just one little yellow pill during the offseason. The Fair Lawn High School Boys Volleyball team will face Don Bosco Thursday in a 2012 Bergen County Tournament title rematch after knocking off Teaneck Tuesday in the tourney semis.
Despite a subpar showing in the Super Six Showcase this past weekend against the top boys volleyball squads in the state, Fair Lawn showed Tuesday that it's still the team to beat in Bergen County. The Cutters cruised to an easy victory over Teaneck in the Bergen County tournament semifinals, 25-17; 25-8, to set up a rematch of last year's county tournament final with defending county champion Don Bosco. Bosco ended Fair Lawn's run of three consecutive county titles last year, beating the Cutters in three sets, 17-25; 25-23; 25-17, on Fair Lawn's court. The Cutters played the game without two of their top players, Luke St. John and Chris Nugent, who were battling injuries. St. John has since graduated, but the Cutters will have Nugent, the…

Entrepreneur says the NFL-registered league will be open to first graders through adults.
A local entrepreneur has started a new league that he says will help fill a void in the Bergen County sports scene. Carl Susini, of Mahwah, was a coach in the township's Youth Football League for eight years before serving as president of the Bergen Passaic Youth Football League. Though Susini and his wife could not have any children, he says the impact youth sports had on him as a child prompted him to become involved in the existing programs in the township, and create something new. “I remember the experience I got,” he said. “It was not only educational, I learned things that were really life-changing. I want to be able to help give kids that.” In 2010, Susini founded Youth Sports World, a sports promotion and marketing company that …

The Bergen County Boys Tennis Tournament began this weekend.
Fair Lawn is tied for the points lead after the first day of the Bergen County Boys Tennis tournament, but the team is in a more precarious situation than its coach had anticipated. The Cutters' three singles players all won twice to advance to the semifinals, but both of the school's doubles teams were knocked out in the quarters, coach Matthew Markman said. Markman said he hadn't counted on a quarterfinals win from first doubles, which had been seeded eighth, but called the loss of his No. 2-seeded second doubles team an upset. "We made way too many errors and gave away too many free points," he said of second doubles' loss to Old Tappan. The squad can still win the county tournament on points if the three remaining singles players excel…

Don Bosco pulled ahead and away from Bergen County in the third quarter to win their second consecutive county title.
The Don Bosco Ironmen outscored the Bergen Catholic Crusaders 5-1 in the third quarter of the finals in the Bergen County Lacrosse Tournament. That scoring outburst made all the difference and propelled the Ironmen to a 10-6 victory and their second straight Bergen County championship. The Ironmen had a rough go of it in the first half. Bergen Catholic goalie Matt Pedrick was on point early on and held the Ironmen to just three first-half goals. “They came out playing hard. We were struggling with our shots and their goalie played really well," said Don Bosco captain Teddy Sisco-Tolomeo. Don Bosco looked like a different team in the second half. They came out very aggressive, snatched control of the game and never looked back. "In the …

James, Why belittle another sport (which I dislike, by the way) in order to make your point? And all my point was that the attempt to market MLS as "major league," given the premiere leagues already in places--a number in Europe--was, to me, a waste of time. Can you go to an MLS game and have a great time and see a competitive, fairly topnotch game? Sure, in the same way you can go see the …   more ›
