Home Improvement Contractor with Bogus Fair Lawn Addresses Banned from NJ

John Kot, owner of three home improvement business with Fair Lawn addresses, is banned from performing home improvement work and owning or managing any business in New Jersey.

A Garwood man who owned multiple home improvement companies, some with Fair Lawn addresses, has been permanently barred from managing or owning any business in New Jersey and must pay $7.7 million in consumer restitution and civil penalities afer being found to have committed more than 1,000 consumer fraud violations, Attorney General Jefffrey Chiesa announced Tuesday. John Kot, 41, and the multiple home improvement companies he ran -- which racked up 81 consumer complaints -- were found to have committed 1,542 violations of the State Consumer Fraud Act, Contractors' Registration Act, Contractor Registration Regulations, Home Improvement Regulations and Advertising Regulations, according to an attorney general's office release. Contractors Sued for Consumer Fraud Used Bogus Fair Lawn Addresses

Home improvement companies registered with the state at an address in Fair Lawn have never actually existed there.

Visits paid to the Fair Lawn address listed with the state for home improvement contractors A-1 American Construction, A-1 American Chimney and Brick City Chimney Service and Cleaning turned up no trace of any such companies. All three businesses are on a list of home improvement companies linked to John Kot and Gabriel DaSilva, Jr., who both face a lawsuit from New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa and the Division of Consumer Affairs for allegedly defrauding dozens of consumers. "We allege that these defendants defrauded consumers of their hard-earned money," Chiesa said in a statement.
