ADA Committee Thrives With Renewed Focus

The Fair Lawn ADA Committee held a dance Friday at the Community Center for adults with special needs

Word is getting out about the Fair Lawn ADA Committee. Until recently, the group, which advocates for community members with disabilities, had seen its membership dwindle and its meetings grow more and more infrequent. But in the last couple years, a few dedicated members have taken the reins and revived the committee, which has since tripled in size. “It’s in the last year or two years it’s really taken a different direction,” committee chairman David Jordan said. “A lot more people have gotten involved. Adults with Disabilities Get A Place to Foot It in Fair Lawn

Starting Friday, the Fair Lawn Community Center will hold dances for Bergen County adults with disabilities

For the first time Friday, adults with disabilities who live in Fair Lawn won’t have to travel to a neighboring community to attend a social function with friends. Over the next 10 months, the Arc of Bergen and Passaic Counties, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals with developmental disabilities, will sponsor a series of dances at the Fair Lawn Community Center gymnasium for individuals with disabilities, aged 21 and over, from across Bergen County. Friday’s dance will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and have a $5 charge, to cover refreshments. The dance was made possible by the Fair Lawn Americans with Disabilities Act Advisory Committee, whose goal is to provide social and recreational activities for children, teens …
