Fair Lawn, Saddle Brook Gave More to Romney During Election Cycle

Despite a majority of voters in Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook going Democratic in the November election, a much larger portion of campaign contributions went to the Republican candidate for president.

While a majority of the Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook residents who voted on Election Day selected Barack Obama for president, more of each community's campaign contributions went to his opponent. The number of Democratic and Republican donors in each town mirrored voting patterns, but the amount they gave did not. In Fair Lawn, 58 percent of the $40,950 donated to the two top candidates went Mitt Romney's way, while nearly three-quarters of the $7,518 in campaign contibrutions from Saddle Brook residents bolstered the challengers' cause. Independent of presidential candidate, the average Fair Lawn resident gave more than twice the average Saddle Brook resident during the 2012 election cycle.
