Bisque Cafe Benefits from BIC's Sign and Awning Grant

The Bisque Cafe & Grill, located at 30-08 Broadway, recently received a new sign and awning through the Broadway Improvement Corporation's Sign and Awning grant program.

Broadway's Bisque Café & Grill is standing out with an eye-catching new sign and awning, thanks to the Broadway Improvement Corporation. The restaurant received a $500 matching grant through the BIC's Sign and Awning Grant Program, which is available to businesses located in Fair Lawn’s Broadway Special Improvement District. “Through this program, distinctive signs for new businesses have been added and old, faded, and in some cases damaged or unsightly signs and awnings have been replaced with more attractive and affordable new ones,” BIC president Bob Beshlian said.  “Local businesses need every competitive edge they can get, and an appealing storefront can be a major factor in their success.” The BIC’s professional staff and volunteer …

Sign Ordinance Change Likely in Broadway District

The Borough Council came to a consensus at their Tuesday night work session to vote on an ordinance to ease restrictions on signs along the Broadway corridor.

The Borough Council is likely to vote on changes to sign ordinances in the Broadway District at their next public meeting, which is set for Tuesday. Current ordinances limit signs to two feet in height, and the height of lettering to 16 inches. The Broadway Improvement Corporation, which worked with the Council on the ordinance, said that while the old regulations might make sense for the rest of the town, applying them to a highway district makes little sense. The new ordinance will relax restrictions on signs along the Broadway corridor. When a town’s “Main Street” looks depressed and aesthetically outdated, which Broadway does, and doesn’t offer easily accessible parking, which Broadway doesn’t, it won’t attract customers who are used to shopping in aesthetically modern malls filled with beautiful stores.
