Fair Lawn Man Scooped Up in Child Porn Sting

Fair Lawn resident Ernest Okhtenberg, 39, was among 25 people across the state charged with possession and distribution of child pornography following a multi-agency investigation.

A Fair Lawn man is accused of possessing and distributing child pornography, Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa announced Wednesday. Ernest Okhtenberg, 39, was among 25 people arrested as part of a three-month multi-agency operation aimed at stamping out collectors and distributors of child pornography, including child rape videos.  Okhtenberg, like the other men charged, was found to be in possession of multiple sexually explicit videos of young children that he shared with others over the internet, authorities said. “Anyone who views and distributes child pornography – particularly the type of child rape videos targeted in this operation – puts himself in league with the predators who sexually assault children to create these videos,” …

Police Chief Proud of Department's Handling of Complaints

Fair Lawn was one of only 21 police departments in Bergen County where officers correctly answered all of the internal affairs complaints questions the ACLU posed in a recent study.

Fair Lawn, unlike more than half of the police departments across the state, is on the ball when it comes to taking citizen complaints, according to an American Civil Liberties Union report released Tuesday. The Fair Lawn Police Department was one of 21 (out of 69) departments in Bergen County where officers answered all five of the ACLU's internal affairs complaints questions correctly in recent phone conversations. "This report reinforces that we do comply with the attorney general's guidelines," said Chief Erik Rose, adding that he was proud of the department. "It's not just a matter of paying lip service." Rose, who said his officers had received training on proper complaint taking procedures, reiterated that the department takes …

Local Home Improvement Contractors Face Consumer Fraud Charges

AAA Reliable and Old Reliable Construction, LLC, both allegedly located at 25 Lincoln Ave., face a lawsuit that alleges, among other things, that each did not complete work they had been contracted to do and in some cases destroyed or damaged chimneys

Two Fair Lawn-based home improvement companies that face a state lawsuit for allegedly defrauding dozens of customers have agreed to temporarily halt advertising initiatives and stop taking on new projects, New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa announced Wednesday. AAA Reliable, Inc. and Old Reliable Construction, LLC, both allegedly located at 25 Lincoln Ave., are temporarily barred from advertising, selling or performing home improvements and have had their company assets frozen and website disabled. In addition to their Fair Lawn address, the companies, which specialize in chimney repair, roofing repair and gutter cleaning, according to the suit, also maintained business addresses in Franklin Lakes, North Haledon and Totowa. Each …

Contractors Sued for Consumer Fraud Used Bogus Fair Lawn Addresses

Home improvement companies registered with the state at an address in Fair Lawn have never actually existed there.

Visits paid to the Fair Lawn address listed with the state for home improvement contractors A-1 American Construction, A-1 American Chimney and Brick City Chimney Service and Cleaning turned up no trace of any such companies. All three businesses are on a list of home improvement companies linked to John Kot and Gabriel DaSilva, Jr., who both face a lawsuit from New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa and the Division of Consumer Affairs for allegedly defrauding dozens of consumers. "We allege that these defendants defrauded consumers of their hard-earned money," Chiesa said in a statement. "We're working to obtain restitution for these consumers and to prohibit Kot, DaSilva and their companies from engaging in any future violations of …
