Estimated 400,000 people expected in region; team practices to be held in Florham Park and Media Day in Newark
The 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium is expected to have a $550 million economic impact on New Jersey and New York, with an estimated 400,000 people in the region, according to a report on dailyrecord.com. Businesses should start preparing for the flood of visitors now, according to speakers at The Big Game Huddle, an informational and networking event held Wednesday at Raritan Valley Country Club. “Start the celebration now,” said Wayne Hasenbalg, president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. “You don’t have to wait until the week before the game," he told the dailyrecord.com. That impact will be felt in North and Central Jersey, as one of the competing teams will practice at the Atlantic …

The Super Bowl is about boisterous company and over-the-top parties as much as it is about unbelievable football moments and amazing commercials you'll forget about in 15 minutes. Patch asked Facebook fans from around Bergen County where we could find the best parties for the big game. Westwood-Hillsdale Patch readers were vocal about their vote: "Dog House Saloon for sure! The best food, poeple, bar, TVs [and] best wings around! Definitely the Dog House," said Phyllis Martino. Some others suggested The Iron Horse and Bat Barry's, both in Westwood, and Lou's Tavern in Hillsdale. Paramus Patch reader Michele Sosslau cast her vote for a popular — and well-equipped — East Firehouse Lane bar. "Orange Lantern is always a good time," Sosslau …

The massive American Dream mall in the Meadowlands will not be ready in time for the 2014 Super Bowl being held at nearby MetLIfe Stadium, WYNC.org reported. According to the report, sources said the project "won't be ready" in time despite Governor Christie's claim in 2010 that the mall, once called Xanadu, would be open for the game. American Dream was missing from a list of Super Bowl events announced last week by the Christie Administration. NJ.com reported one possible cause for the latest delay could be a lawsuit filed by the Giants and Jets seeking to keep the mall closed on game days. Construction began in 2004, but was halted in 2009 before current owner Triple Five took over the troubled project. An indoor ice rink, water …

Worst news possible for third-year receiver
When the New England Patriots added defensive end Alex Silvestro to their 53-man roster Saturday night, they released Rutgers alum Tiquan Underwood. A day before the biggest game of his life, the rug was pulled out from underneath him. Underwood was one of four Rutgers University alums on the Patriots, including Silvestro, who was signed off the practice squad. That number is down to three. According to the Boston Herald, the move was not disciplinary and the Herald said Underwood could possibly be back next year. Along with Devin McCourty, Silvestro and Nate Jones, the men from Scarlet Knight country have boded well for Patriots coach Bill Belichick. “I think all four players are very team-oriented, and they come from a great program,” …
