Fair Lawn Amassed Area's Largest Toys for Tots Collection

The Fair Lawn police, rescue squad and police dispatchers teamed up with the U.S. Marine Corps this holiday season to collect Toys for Tots.

Fair Lawn emergency service workers set quite the bar for toy collections this past holiday season. In their first year participating in the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program, the Fair Lawn Policemen's Benevolent Association, in concert with the Fair Lawn Rescue Squad and Fair Lawn Police Dispatchers collected more toys than any of the other 42 collection stations throughout the area, PBA president Michael O'Brien said. O'Brien said he had no idea they had collected 3,041 toys until recently when the PBA received a tally of the items they collected and a plaque from the Saddle River Detachment No. 1211 Marine Corps League recognizing them for their contributions. Toys for Tots Collection Bound for Victims of Superstorm Sandy, Sandy Hook Elementary

The Fair Lawn police, rescue squad and police dispatchers teamed up with the U.S. Marine Corps this holiday season to collect Toys for Tots.

Fair Lawn police officers, dispatchers and rescue squad volunteers Tuesday loaded the heaps of toys they've amassed this holiday season into a van headed for the Closter Fire Department, which serves as Bergen County's Toys for Tots distribution center. The toys, collected through resident donations, will support a wide range of worthy groups and causes including local children's hospitals, homeless shelters, religious institutions and the children of deployed military service members. Trucks carrying toys will also make stops in Toms River for distribution to Hurricane Sandy victims, and in Newtown, Conn., for those affected by Friday's devastating school shooting. Rescue Squad Collecting Toys for Tots

The Rescue Squad will hold a toy drive at its headquarters from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 6

The Fair Lawn Rescue Squad will again be supporting the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program, which since 1947 has collected and distributed more than 13 million new toys to disadvantaged children during the holidays. From Dec. 1 through Dec. 16, the Rescue Squad will house collection drop boxes for new, unwrapped toys at various municipal locations throughout town, including the Library, Community Center, Rescue Squad building, Ambulance Corps building and Borough Hall. Three local businesses – Best Cleaners, The Flower Cart and Radburn Deli – will also keep collection drop boxes at their locations.
