Postal Service Announces End of Saturday Mail Delivery

The U.S. Postal Service announced it will end Saturday mail delivery by Aug. 1. How will it affect you?

Calling the six-days-per-week mail delivery business model “no longer sustainable,” the U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday it will eliminate Saturday delivery of mail by Aug. 1. The plan to change delivery from six days a week to five would only affect first-class mail. Residents Meet in Support of Preserving Post Offices

Last summer, both the River Road and Warren Point Post Offices appeared on a list of North Jersey post office branches being considered for closure this year

Residents concerned about the proposed elimination of two post offices in Fair Lawn will meet Tuesday at the Radburn Post Office on Abbott Road to let their voices be heard. The public hearing begins at 6:30 p.m. A United States Postal Service representative will be present to respond to comments. In July, both the River Road and Warren Point Post Offices appeared on a list of 13 North Jersey postal branches being considered for permanent closure, as early as January 2012. The reason the post office is in so much financial trouble is a combination of people demanding services that are not revenue justified and employees that have civil service "protection". They should cancel this outreach bs and just place sign on the door with directions to the nearest location.   more ›

Christmas Shipping Deadlines Begin Today

The last day to send First Class through USPS is today

Want to mail something out from Fair Lawn in time for Christmas? The time to hit the post office is now! FedEx is offering a variety of shipping options throughout the week, and on Sunday, Dec. 25, is offering FedEx Same Day shipping. USPS also recommends using its Web site to print shipping labels and pay for postage or using one of their Automated Postal Centers, which, like ATMs, perform many of the same functions of a trip to the post office. And if you want to overnight something by Thursday, USPS Express Mail may cost a little more, but it may also get your gift to the right door at the right time.

Borough council passed a resolution Tuesday to oppose the proposed closing of two of Fair Lawn's three post offices

Council passed a resolution Tuesday opposing the proposed closure by the United States Postal Service of two post office branches in Fair Lawn. In July, both the River Road and Warren Point Post Offices appeared on a list of 13 North Jersey postal branches being considered for permanent closure, as early as January. If both the River Road and Warren Point Post Offices are shuttered, the Radburn Post Office on Abbott Road, would serve as Fair Lawn’s lone post office. Tuesday’s council resolution, which passed 4-to-1, recognizes, “the contribution local post offices provide to the residents and businesses in the area which they serve," and goes on to formally "protest against any action which would force the closure of these two post offices…

The council opposses the closing of the the post offices in town i agree. Yet you do not here a peep about the new 7-11 store on berdan/river road and the crime and noise it will bring. There was no opposition by the council and no meetings to discuss the matter. It was all under the rug or a rumor that never made the papers. But with work at the site in progress i have an idea. maybe 7-11 can …   more ›
