Inside Fair Lawn: Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon Dinner Dance

Wayne Robbins captured video and interviews from January's Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon Dinner Dance at the Fair Lawn Community Center.

The Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon, a local non-profit that provides support to military "adoptees" and their units stationed overseas, held a dinner dance fundraiser on Jan. 12 at the Fair Lawn Community Center. Inside Fair Lawn's Wayne Robbins attended the fundraiser, which featured a buffet dinner catered by Giovanni's Deli and music by Joe Zisa and Friends Band. Residents Encouraged to Drop Off Items for NJ Troops

The borough and police department have partnered with Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon to set up collection boxes at various municipal locations

The holidays have passed, but the borough and its police department are still collecting items for New Jersey soldiers. Fair Lawn has continued its partnership with local military troop morale-boosting non-profit Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon to support local soldiers serving overseas and asks that residents contribute to the cause. The borough has stationed public collection boxes at four municipal locations where residents can drop off items to be distributed to servicemen and women.  Boxes are set up at the municipal building, public library, senior center and community center. Dine and Dance at Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon Fundraiser

An Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon dinner dance fundraiser will be held Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Fair Lawn Community Center.

The Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon, a local non-profit that provides support to military "adoptees" and their units stationed overseas, is having a dinner dance fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Fair Lawn Community Center. The fundraiser, which runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., will feature a buffet dinner catered by Giovanni's Deli and music by Joe Zisa and Friends Band. Tickets are avaliable until Jan. 8 for $50 per person and can be purchased in the mayor's office at Fair Lawn Borough Hall, Giovanni's, the Community Center, the Fair Lawn Community School office and online at www.adoptasoldierplatoon.org. Fair Lawn Partnerships Offer Military Morale Booster

The borough is working with Fair Lawn's own Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon and Cell Phones for Soldiers this holiday season to offer aid to service members stationed abroad.

Fair Lawn is keeping its local soldiers stationed abroad front of mind this holiday season. The borough and its police department have partnered with two military support organizations that distribute supplies to troops overseas and is asking that residents contribute to the cause. Collection boxes for both Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon and Cell Phones for Soldiers are now set up in various locations around town. Residents can find collection boxes for Fair Lawn-based Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon at the municipal building, public library, senior center and community center. Adopt-a-Soldier Wins $10K After Flurry of Late Contest Votes

A Fair Lawn-based charity that supports troops stationed overseas finished 161st in the Chase Community Giving Program, high enough to garner a $10,000 donation from the bank.

The Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon Program, which for a few days had fallen out of the running in a national contest for Chase grant money, made a dramatic surge on the contest's final day to finish 161st and earn a $10,000 check from the bank. The Fair Lawn-based organization, which collects non-perishable food items, toiletries, small electronics and other items for soldiers stationed overseas, had been in fierce competition for up to $250,000 in grants from Chase as part of the bank's annual Community Giving Program. After being nominated earlier in the year, Adopt-a-Soldier entered a voting process with nearly 30,000 other charities across the nation. The local charity is currently running 151st nationally in the Chase Community Giving Program, putting it in line for a $10,000 donation.

The Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon Program has been boosting the morale of military units overseas and their families back home since 2003. In return, why not give them a boost with a simple click of your mouse? The Fair Lawn-based organization, which collects non-perishable food items, toiletries, small electronics and other items for soldiers stationed overseas, is currently in fierce competition for up to $250,000 in grants from Chase as part of the bank's Community Giving Program. Alan Krutchkoff spoke Sunday at Temple Beth Sholom in recognition of Veterans Day. Krutchkoff, a Fair Lawn resident and Vietnam veteran, is the co-founder of Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon, Inc., an organization that since 2003 has supported troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as on U.S. bases and in hospitals.
