An Ohio group with connections to the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church in Fair Lawn donated two trailer loads of supplies to hurricane relief efforts this weekend.
The Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church's extended family stretches far and wide. On Saturday, a gracious group of ten volunteers from Marysville, Ohio drove all day to deliver two trailer loads of hurricane relief supplies to the church. New Jersey native Jason Comstock, who led the Marysville delivery team, spearheaded the donation efforts after seeing the destruction caused by Sandy. He called his aunt, a VREBBC trustee, to see what he could do to help his home state, and she set him up with VREBBC Pastor David Boone. Boone arranged with a former VREBBC associate pastor, who is now senior pastor at a church in Manasquan, to distribute the relief items as needed. The Marysville crew, who gathered donations from all over Union County…

Fair Lawn police detective David Boone was installed Sunday as the new senior pastor at Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church.
David Boone returned to his boyhood church in a new capacity on Sunday. At a church ceremony attended by friends, family, co-workers and local political dignitaries, the Fair Lawn police detective and local Policemen’s Benevolent Association president was installed as senior pastor at Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church, where he’s been preaching since November. As a teenager, Boone assisted with the youth program and even preached his first sermon at the Broadway Baptist Church in Paterson before it merged with Van Riper Ellis Memorial Church to become what is now Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church (VREBBC) on River Road. The church had been without a senior pastor for over two years before welcoming Boone, who had most recently …

The manager said he will be thoroughly investigating the matter and making a recommendation to council on how to proceed
The Fair Lawn police union announced Friday that it had taken a vote of no confidence in the leadership of the police department under Chief Erik Rose and Capt. Joseph Cook. Det. David Boone, president of Fair Lawn Policemen's Benevolent Association Local 67, said 92 percent of the members supported the no confidence vote, which took place Wednesday. "Never in the history of our department have the members found it necessary to take such a vote, but never have we found ourselves in a position such as we are now," Boone said. Since 2007, rank-and-file officers have filed multiple lawsuits against the department, Rose and Cook that allege harassment, discrimination and retaliatory tactics. Boone said the same pattern of behavior alleged of …

This Christmas season, Santa and his elves brought a tree, a wreath and some food to a Fair Lawn family in need.
When Liz Twiggs, coordinator of the Fair Lawn Food Pantry, found out that one of her clients couldn't afford a Christmas tree this holiday season, she sprung into action and launched, "Operation Santa Boone." With the help of Detective David Boone and food pantry volunteer Beri Raffiani, Twiggs procured a 7.5-foot pre-lit tree, a wreath, two shopping cartloads of food, some small gifts and an additional top secret Christmas gift (to be opened on Christmas Day) for her client, Theresa, and Theresa's family. On Dec. 6, the crew (Twiggs and her daughter Bridget Maresca dressed as elves, Boone dressed as Santa and Raffiani as herself) launched "Operation Santa Boone" -- a surprise night-time delivery of the items. Members of the Fair Lawn …
