Two Children Struck While Crossing River Road

A driver turning left onto River Road from Berdan Avenue struck two middle schoolers walking home from school Thursday, a crossing guard said.

Two Memorial Middle School students were struck by a car while crossing River Road on their walk home from class Thursday, a crossing guard who witnessed the accident said. The girls, ages 11 and 12, were crossing with the light and inside the crosswalk when a car turning left from Berdan Avenue onto River Road struck both of them in the rear, sending one of the girls flying into the air, crossing guard Mel Schultz said. The driver, who said she never saw the kids, immediately stopped her vehicle and got out of the car to tend to the children, who were both knocked to the ground, Schultz said. I would just like to say that it's unfortunate that it took two kids getting hit by a car to actually get this guy to do his job but He has been standing at his post and even on the opposite corner near Jot Dental actually crossing the kids. Driver Loses Control on Rain-Slick 208 North, Flips Car

A driver traveling northbound on Route 208 rolled over his vehicle near the the Fair Lawn-Glen Rock border Tuesday night, but suffered no serious injuries.

A driver traveling northbound on Route 208 Tuesday evening lost control of his vehicle due to the slick road conditions, struck the divider and flipped over, police said. The driver escaped serious injury, but was transported to the hospital as a precaution after complaining of back pain, police said. There were no passengers in the vehicle. Fair Lawn and Glen Rock police both responded to the accident, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m. between Maple Avenue and Harristown Road, near the Glen Rock border. Route 208 Crash Sends 1 to Hospital

An occupant of one of the vehicles involved in the crash Sunday afternoon near the Saddle River Road exit was taken to the hospital with head injuries.

A two-car accident on Route 208 West near the Saddle River Road exit Sunday afternoon sent one person to the hospital and closed the highway for about 35 minutes, police said. An occupant in one of the vehicles was taken to Valley Hospital with a head laceration and both cars involved, a Jeep and a Mazda, took major damage and were towed from the scene. Police are investigating the crash and could not confirm the circumstances of the accident or the number of occupants in either car at this time. That is a very bad spot. When you go to merge to either get on 208 or get off on Saddle River Road you have to be very cautious about the traffic coming up on your right.   more ›

5-Car Accident Sends 3 to Hospital

A man driving west on Fair Lawn Avenue between Plaza Road and Pollitt Drive lost control of his vehicle and initiated a five-car accident Thursday afternoon

A man driving westbound on Fair Lawn Avenue around noon Thursday lost control of his burgundy Buick LeSabre and jumped the right-hand curb, striking a garbage can, three street signs and a telephone pole, before crashing into another car as it was exiting an adjacent parking lot, police said. The telephone pole split and came crashing down on the roof of the LeSabre. The accident occurred between Pollitt Drive and Plaza Road, an area already snarled with traffic congestion because of Verizon construction necessitated by flood damage. In all, five cars took damage in the accident, three of which were not directly involved, but were struck by objects sent flying by the initiating driver.
