Borough Seeks Traffic Camera at Treacherous Intersection

The borough will apply for a spot in the state's Red Light Running Automated Enforcement Program.

The borough will apply to have a traffic safety camera installed at the intersection of Fair Lawn Avenue and Saddle River Road through the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Red Light Running (RLR) Automated Enforcement Program. The RLR program, established in 2008 by then-Governor Jon Corzine, was intended to determine the effectiveness of traffic control signal monitoring systems in New Jersey. Municipalities able to identify an intersection in their community with a documented history of red light running where other methods of enforcement have failed to decrease violations or crashes are eligible to apply for a traffic control signal monitoring system. What Should Fill Empty Radburn Storefronts?

A number of Radburn area businesses are picking up shop and moving out of the area.

A number of storefronts along Fair Lawn Avenue located either in the Radburn Shopping Center, or across from it, have recently been vacated or will soon be vacated. A sign in the window of Superior Shoe Repair alerts passersby that the shop will be relocating to 13-29 River Road. Shop owner Gennady Kuperman said he was moving out because the rent at his current location had gotten too high. The date of his move isn't firm, he said, but he anticipated he'd be out by late April or early May. Two doors down from Superior Shoe Repair, the Air Voice (Verizon Wireless) store has already cleared out. Margand Enterprises, which owns the Radburn Shopping Center, also owns both Superior Shoe Repair and the old Air Voice store. What would you like to…

Borough Receives $500K for Pedestrian Safety Improvements

Fair Lawn is soon expected to accept a state grant for construction on Fair Lawn Avenue

The borough has received a sizable grant for construction improvements along Fair Lawn Avenue that, when implemented, should make the thoroughfare a safer place for crossing pedestrians. Although the $500,000 matching grant is earmarked for Fair Lawn Avenue improvements, it was actually applied for and received by the county from the state. The county supplies the funds and the borough provides the engineering needed to design and implement the improvements -- most of which has already been done. "Where we were very fortunate was, 90 percent of the engineering work had already been completed," said borough manager Tom Metzler, who compared the grant to a smaller roadway improvement grant the borough recently accepted for pedestrian safety …

Oh my goodness, I was almost hit last week around 5 PM coming from from Abbott Road (by CVS) to cross Fair Lawn Avenue to get to Subway. People turn that part of Fair Lawn Ave into a two-lane road. The driver in the lane closer to me stopped, as did traffic from the opposite way.
