The drivers of four cars involved in a chain reaction crash on Fair Lawn Avenue between 3rd and 4th Street Wednesday were taken to area hospitals with varying degrees of non life-threatening injuries, police said. Sgt. Eric Leitman said three cars were stopped in traffic waiting to cross the Fair Lawn Avenue bridge into Paterson around 3:30 p.m. when a fourth car rear-ended the third, pushing it forward and setting off a chain reaction that ensnared all four vehicles. He said the driver whose car was struck directly suffered the brunt of the damage and was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson complaining of pain throughout her entire body. Two Memorial Middle School students were struck by a car while crossing River Road on their walk home from class Thursday, a crossing guard who witnessed the accident said. The girls, ages 11 and 12, were crossing with the light and inside the crosswalk when a car turning left from Berdan Avenue onto River Road struck both of them in the rear, sending one of the girls flying into the air, crossing guard Mel Schultz said. The driver, who said she never saw the kids, immediately stopped her vehicle and got out of the car to tend to the children, who were both knocked to the ground, Schultz said. The girls were shaken up and crying, but did not appear to suffer any serious injuries and walked away from the accident. Officer Timothy Franco, …

A Jeep Laredo traveling north over the Maple Avenue Bridge into Fair Lawn Monday night was t-boned by a westbound motorist as it passed through the lightless intersection with River Road, police said. The Laredo rolled over twice from the force of the impact and was totaled. Its two occupants escaped serious injury and declined transport to the hospital, but a passenger in the westbound Toyota Corolla, which police said initiated the accident, was taken to the hospital with chest pain. Like the traffic signals on many of Fair Lawn's busiest roads, the Maple Avenue/River Road signal had been without power since Hurricane Sandy swept through town a week earlier. While motorists will tell you there have been multiple close calls, police said …

Traffic was backed up a dozen cars deep trying to exit at the Route 208 Plaza Road exit ramp Friday afternoon.
A car accident in the vicinity of Plaza Road and Carol Place backed up the nearby Route 208 exit ramp Friday afternoon around 2:15 p.m. The northbound lane of Plaza Road was closed temporarily while the accident was cleared and police fought the pounding rain to direct traffic at the scene. A silver Ford Focus and a gold Toyota sedan -- both with front-end damage -- were towed from the scene. It isn't clear if poor weather conditions -- which caused a motorist to spin out and topple a light pole earlier in the morning -- played a role in this crash Neither the nature of the accident nor the condition of either driver involved is known. Police were unavailable for comment. -- Follow Fair Lawn Patch on Facebook and Twitter, and subscribe to…

Neither driver was seriously injured, but the CR-V's driver, who suffered a minor head injury, was stabilized, strapped to a gurney and taken to Hackensack University Medical Center as a precaution. Four cars were involved in a chain reaction collision during rush hour Friday on Plaza Road and Berdan Avenue, adjacent to the Route 208 ramp and Ambulance Corps building.
A four-car accident at the intersection of Plaza Road and Berdan Avenue just after 5 p.m. Friday snarled traffic and briefly closed the Route 208 on-ramp, but resulted in no serious injuries, police said. Fair Lawn resident Freeman Miller said he was heading home from work driving south on Plaza Road when an Acura coming the opposite direction on Plaza tried to make a quick left turn in front of him at the Berdan Avenue intersection. Miller didn't see the car and plowed into it. "One guy made a left turn and the guy that I hit tried to sneak in behind him to make the left turn before I got into the intersection, but he couldn't make it," Miller, 73, said. "Before I knew it, I was on top of him...He was hidden behind the first car." The …

Both drivers involved in a two-car accident at the corner of Morlot Avenue and Plaza Road were taken to the hospital just after noon on Tuesday.
A head-on car crash on Morlot Avenue just before noon Tuesday sent both drivers to the hospital with injuries and slowed traffic at the intersection of Morlot Avenue and Plaza Road. The collision occurred when the elderly driver of a Mercedes headed westbound on Morlot Avenue blacked out, likely due to a medical emergency, and swerved head on into oncoming traffic, hitting an eastbound Volkswagen, police said. Neither car involved in the accident had any passengers, and both drivers were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center after being worked on by paramedics at the scene. Police said the injuries were not considered life threatening, but that advanced life support was summoned to the scene because of the unknown nature of the …

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Two drivers were taken to the hospital late Monday afternoon with non-life threatening injuries after their cars collided at the intersection of River Road and Richard Street, in front of the American Legion building. Police, fire and rescue all responded to the accident scene, which backed up traffic on River Road for about 45 minutes while the rescue squad extricated one of the drivers from her car and then lifted the damaged vehicle onto the bed of a tow truck. While a nuisance to drivers, the resulting traffic jam aided Fair Lawn police in the capture of a fugitive who inadvertently drove his 2003 Maroon Chevrolet Impala right into the accident scene after fleeing Hawthorne police following a traffic stop. Fair Lawn police at the …

Mike has a point. Government regardless of subdivision is still government. I see someone being put into a Fair Lawn VOLUNTEER Ambulance. There is a few hundred bucks. Then there is each of the summons, if you dare to challenge them, the municipal court will charge you more for it. Between the fines and "costs", motor vehicle incidents net the government $100s, a thousand or more is not unheard …   more ›
