Alleged Fair Lawn Car Burglars Captured

Fair Lawn police arrested two Paterson men accused of burglarizing vehicles, according to police reports.

Police arrested two Paterson men Monday who were allegedly attempting to burglarize cars in Fair Lawn, Sgt. Brian Metzler said. Erikson Polanco, 20, and Emmanuel Bernard, 23, were each charged with two counts of burglary after police located them on Elm Avenue just before 10 p.m. following a report that they had been walking up driveways and attempting to enter parked vehicles, Metzler said. Bernard was also found to have an outstanding warrant out of Clifton for trespassing, Metzler said. Polanco and Bernard were transported to Bergen County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. -- Follow Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook Patch on Facebook and Twitter, and subscribe to receive our daily newsletter in your inbox each morning

Man Snatches Keys from Oceanos' Valet Stand, Speeds Off in Patron's Audi

One car and three additional sets of car keys were stolen from the free-standing valet board outside Oceanos Restaurant in Fair Lawn Friday night, police said.

A pair of car thieves pulled off the brazen heist of an Audi and the keys to three other vehicles from a popular Fair Lawn restaurant Friday night while patrons dined inside, police said. Two white males pulled into Oceanos' parking lot around 10 p.m. Friday driving what witnesses described as a black Mercedes. One of the men, described as tall, thin, between 20 and 30 years old, and wearing a light shirt and white hat, exited the vehicle and approached one of the restaurant's valets to ask for directions to the nearest hotel, Oceanos' executive chef Peter Panteleakis said. Following a brief conversation with the valet, the man snatched four sets of keys from the restaurant's free standing outdoor valet board and began wildly pressing car …

Fair Lawn Police reported three thefts within about a 13-hour period Tuesday night to Wednesday morning last week

Between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning last week, three thefts occurred within a 13-hour period in the Warren Point section of town, according to police reports. At this point, Fair Lawn police do not know if the incidents -- one home burglary and two car break-ins -- are related. "Other than they are in the same neighborhood, I have no other information linking them," Sgt. Richard Schultz said in an email. The first incident happened around 6:47 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 when police were called to a home on Virginia Drive for a reported burglary. According to police reports, the homeowners returned home from work to find their house had been ransacked. Jewelry was reported stolen from the residence. About 7 a.m. the next morning…

Police Urge Residents to Lock Their Cars

“Leaving windows open and/or doors unlocked + Valuables left in plain view = Theft from vehicle,” reads the subject line of a recent Fair Lawn Police Department memo. It’s a simple equation, but one many Fair Lawn residents still haven't grasped. As a result, thieves looking for a quick-and-easy payday have been subtracting valuables from unprotected cars at an increasing rate. The police department advised residents to lock their cars earlier this summer after 11 overnight thefts from unsecured vehicles were reported over a 10-day period in late June. This week, police have issued another reminder after 17 car break-ins occurred during the weekend of Sept. 11 alone. In each case, the valuables that were taken, including GPS units and …
