The Fair Lawn ADA Committee will host a dance for Bergen County adults with special needs Friday at the Community Center gymnasium from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The dance is sponsored by the ARC of Bergen and Passaic counties. Admission is $5 and covers refreshments. Music will be provided by DJ Tommy Tunes, whose appearance is being sponsored by a donation from Fair Lawn residents Stacy and Jim Conroy. Master Gardener Daphne Boss Ayalon will lead the workship, which begins at 7:30 p.m. and will teach residents how to recycle food waste into fertilizer for their garden or potted plants. Special needs teenagers from across Bergen County are welcome to attend a dance being held Friday, April 5, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Fair Lawn Community Center.
The Fair Lawn ADA Committee will hold its first dance for teenagers with special needs Friday at the Community Center from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Until now, the ADA Committee's bi-monthly dances had been open only to special needs adults 21 and over, but increasing demand from parents of special needs teens prompted the committee to hold an event for a younger crowd, committee co-chair Marianne Pettineo said. She said the dance would pair a cadre of teenage volunteers from the Fair Lawn High School National Honor Society, Boy Scouts and St. Anne's confirmation class with the special needs guests to foster positive interactions and meaningful experiences for both groups. Fair Lawn Public Schools students will have their artwork exhibited this week at the Community Center's annual student Arts Festival.
The annual Fair Lawn Public Schools Arts Festival kicks off Tuesday night at the Community Center with an opening reception from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The festival, which has artwork by students in kindergarten through 12th grade, will run through Thursday night. Tuesday's opening reception includes performances by the high school's drama students, catering by the culinary arts students and music by the strings students. The manager's budget calls for $10,000 in capital improvements to the community center arcade.
The Fair Lawn Community Center's stable of antiquated and oft out-of-service arcade games is in for a reset. The manager's budget, presented Tuesday, lays out $10,000 in capital funding to phase out the aging consoles and replace them with more modern games. “If you recall, when the Community Center was built the pinball games and all those types of things were provided by the 501(c) 3," manager Tom Metzler said Tuesday. "4x4," an annual theater festival that showcases original works by aspiring local playwrights kicks off this weekend, Feb. 8-10, at the Fair Lawn Community Center.
The Old Library Theatre's original one-act play festival, "4x4," returns to the Fair Lawn Community Center stage this weekend. The second annual festival, which showcases four original one-act plays by aspiring local playwrights, was produced by Linda Wielkotz and Craig Tiede, with stage management by Al LoMartire. Modeled on other original one-act festivals in the area, 4x4 was created last year by Wielkotz to diversify the theatre’s offerings and to provide an outlet for emerging creative writing talent. This year's array of original one-acts are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. An Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon dinner dance fundraiser will be held Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Fair Lawn Community Center.
The Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon, a local non-profit that provides support to military "adoptees" and their units stationed overseas, is having a dinner dance fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Fair Lawn Community Center. The fundraiser, which runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., will feature a buffet dinner catered by Giovanni's Deli and music by Joe Zisa and Friends Band.
