The Fair Lawn Football Association will dedicate its new announcer booth Sunday prior to the Tri-County Youth Football League Super Bowl at Vander Plaat Field. The press box, which was funded and built primarily through volunteer contributions and donations, will be dedicated in memory of Michael Anthony Motto. Motto, who died in an accident in 1980 when he was only 10 years old, led the FLFA to two consecutive undefeated seasons and division championships in 1978 and 1979. Michael's brother, Richard, of Phoenix Flooring Company, donated the funds to purchase all of the lumber required for construction of the project. In addition to Phoenix Flooring, other local donors include Ben Denise, of Central Supply Inc., who donated all of the …

Two best friends from Fair Lawn who attended Don Bosco Prep together will achieve their dreams this fall when they begin their Division I football careers.
You wouldn’t know it today to look at his hulking 6-foot-3, 270-pound frame, but soon-to-be Division I offensive lineman Tyler Samra actually began his football career as a slender running back. What’s not nearly as surprising -- at least not to anyone who knows Samra -- is that his lead blocker in those early Fair Lawn Football Association days was a chunky kid with big ears named Mike Strizak. To this day, the pair remains inseparable best friends. “If you see me around town, you’ll see him around town, and if you see him around town, I’ll be with him,” said Strizak, who’s since grown into a chiseled 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive lineman standout. “We’re always together." Samra and Strizak – both of whom came up through the Fair Lawn …

Tim Yuskaitis was officially appointed Fair Lawn's town crier last January.
For a change this Tuesday, Patch won't be the only media source at Fair Lawn's borough council meeting. CBS News will be on hand to film a segment on town crier, Tim Yuskaitis. Yuskaitis, who was also featured in an article in Friday's Bergen Record, will make an appearance Tuesday night to read a proclamation for Women's History Month. Town criers like Yuskaitis have the ceremonial role of making dramatic announcements while wearing medieval or colonial-style costumes at town events. Yuskaitis' interest in becoming a town crier was piqued early last year after he read a Star-Ledger story about a crier in Sussex County, who was one of a handful of criers that existed in New Jersey at the time. After contacting and joining the American …

Monday, Nov. 21 VIDEO: Cutters Come up Just Short in Pee Wee Super Bowl The undefeated Fair Lawn Cutters faced off against the Kinnelon Colts Sunday in the Tri-County Youth Football League Super Bowl at Vander Plaat Field. The game was a defensive slug fest, with both teams playing sound, fundamental football, but neither able to score in the first half. When Kinnelon finally broke through with a touchdwon late in the third quarter, it ended up being the difference. The Cutters mounted two strong fourth quarter drives into Kinnelon territory, but both times the Colts' defense clamped down and forced Fair Lawn to turn it over on downs. The game ended in a 6-0 Super Bowl shutout victory for Kinnelon. Fair Lawn Police Officer Promoted to …
