Between 501 and 2,000 Fair Lawn customers are without power Wednesday afternoon, according to PSEG's online outage map.
A downed power line along Route 208 in Fair Lawn Wednesday afternoon has left hundreds of residents without power, a PSEG spokeswoman said. Kristine Snodgrass said that about 900 customers lost power when a wire came down on Route 208 South near the intersection with Berdan Avenue around 2:50 p.m. Crews are on the scene repairing the wire as of 4 p.m., and power should be restored in full by 5 p.m., she said. The outage does not appear to be localized to a particular part of Fair Lawn, as Sgt. Eric Leitman said he'd received calls about the outage from all over town. -- Follow Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook Patch on Facebook and Twitter, and subscribe to receive our daily newsletter in your inbox each morning

All five of Fair Lawn's council members stayed abreast of the borough's emergency operations and played active roles in town during Superstorm Sandy.
Borough manager Tom Metzler has been in the public eye long enough to know that no matter how Fair Lawn handled its brush with Superstorm Sandy, some residents would inevitably find fault. “If you ask the public, I think one-third are going to tell you we did a great job, one-third are going to tell you we did a terrible job and one-third aren’t going to care one way or the other,” he said, reciting one of his choice axioms about government. “That’s just the way it is.” Metzler said he was very pleased with the way borough personnel, both paid and volunteer, performed during the storm and in its immediate aftermath. “I think they offered the best service that we’re capable of producing and giving,” he said, citing his satisfaction with the…

As of Thursday morning, there were 542 PSEG customers in Fair Lawn and 99 PSEG customers in Saddle Brook still without power.
PSEG still estimates it will have power fully restored to both Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook by midnight Saturday. While Wednesday's nor'easter briefly knocked out customers in portions of both Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook, most of those affected have since been restored. As of Thursday morning, only 3.9 percent of Fair Lawn (542 customers) and 1.5 percent of Saddle Brook (99 customers) was still in the dark, according to PSEG's latest work plan. Borough manager Tom Metzler said Fair Lawn is now focusing on ensuring PSEG has a record of each and every home in the borough still without power. "We are asking residents or neighbors of residents that know of individuals or very small pockets of town without power to call in the addresses involved …

A Jeep Laredo traveling north over the Maple Avenue Bridge into Fair Lawn Monday night was t-boned by a westbound motorist as it passed through the lightless intersection with River Road, police said. The Laredo rolled over twice from the force of the impact and was totaled. Its two occupants escaped serious injury and declined transport to the hospital, but a passenger in the westbound Toyota Corolla, which police said initiated the accident, was taken to the hospital with chest pain. Like the traffic signals on many of Fair Lawn's busiest roads, the Maple Avenue/River Road signal had been without power since Hurricane Sandy swept through town a week earlier. While motorists will tell you there have been multiple close calls, police said …

Saddle Brook, which was just 107 customers from full power restoration Wednesday morning, has experienced a significant setback with Winter Storm Athena. PSEG is now reporting between 501 and 2000 outages in the township, including three schools, and Police Chief Bob Kugler said numerous traffic lights have also been knocked out. Kugler said the department has grown so accustomed to handling traffic signal outages by now that on-duty patrols had the intersections with downed signals coned off within 15 minutes. "We're getting good at this," he said via text. "It's normal operations now!" Kugler said traffic signals in Saddle Brook are out at: Saddle Brook public schools will have a delayed opening Thursday, and Superintendent Kathryn …
