DOT Grant Will Pay for Berdan Avenue Resurfacing

The borough recently received a $300,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to resurface Berdan Avenue.

Berdan Avenue motorists used to a bumpy ride can rest assured that the street will likely be resurfaced this year along with other roads on the borough's 2012 road maintenance list. Fair Lawn recently received $300,000 in grant funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to be used expressly to perform the Berdan Avenue improvement. The road had been excavated a number of years ago to increase underground piping size as part of a storm sewer upgrade intended to alleviate flooding problems during heavy rain. Following the excavation, the road was patched and left to settle while other roads around town were resurfaced. 20 Roads Across Fair Lawn to be Resurfaced by Year's End

Council awarded a contract Tuesday to D&L Paving Contractors to perform roadway improvements in town

The borough contracted with D&L Paving Contractors, Inc. Tuesday for $375,425 to perform roadway resurfacing and the installation of barrier-free ramps across town. Borough engineer Ken Garrison said Fair Lawn surveys its approximately 80 miles of roadway each year to determine which roads are most in need of resurfacing. The roads most in need are then resurfaced as part of the borough’s capital improvement program for maintaining infrastructure. This year, resurfacing will occur at 20 road sites in town, including 11th Street from Gardiner Road to Backus Road, D’Auria Drive from Lyle Terrace to Finn Terrace and George Street from Hopper Avenue to Fair Lawn Avenue.
