Wayne Robbins enjoyed a very special day earlier this week when he visited the Opportunity Center in Fair Lawn for the Agape Road Show's interactive performance. The Agape Road Show, an intergenerational group of musicians, singers, actors, storytellers, and comedians performed a volunteer musical show Tuesday at the Opportunity Center, a year-round facility that provides a day program for young adult special needs clients ages 21-and-up. Students in the high school's Bridges II program will work once a week at the recycling center to gain functional life skills
The high school's Bridges II students, by now well-accustomed to YouTube superstardom following the release last week of their second hit music video in six months, aren't letting the glamor and glitz get in the way of putting in an honest day's work. This fall, the students will ditch the stylists and makeup artists, roll up their sleeves and get dirty once a week working at the borough's recycling center. "We felt that it would be a change of pace," said Bridges II teacher Doreen Yates, who also has arranged for the cohort of cognitively impaired 16-to-21-year-olds to work weekly at Giovanni's Deli and Goodwill. Nine students in the Fair Lawn High School's Bridges II program starred in a music video rendition of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb."
Dozens of adoring fans flocked to the Fair Lawn High School Library Friday morning for the world premiere of a new music video by nine of the school’s Bridges II students. Accustomed to the film cranes, scoop lighting and boom mics from their last shoot, the day’s stars -- dressed in award show garb -- seemed unfazed by the horde of photographers and videographers on hand to capture the unveiling of their moving rendition of Miley Cyrus’, “The Climb.” Doreen Yates, the primary instructor for the Bridges II program, which serves 16- to 21-year olds with cognitive disabilities, said she truly considered the students superstars. “This has been an amazing journey for [the Bridges II students],” Yates said. “What began as a small idea, quickly …
