Man Allegedly Threatened to 'Kill Everybody' At Sleep Center

Sarat Atluri has been charged under the terrorism statute for allegedly threatening a group of people at Fair Lawn's Comprehensive Sleep Center on Wednesday.

The Elmwood Park man arrested on terrorism charges Wednesday after an incident at the Comprehensive Sleep Center on Broadway allegedly said he was "going to kill everybody in here," police said Friday. Sarat Atluri, 35, faces charges of making terroristic threats and terrorism because five or more people were present in the room when the alleged threat was made, police said. Sgt. Eric Leitman said police did not interview Atluri and were thus unaware of his motivation for allegedly threatening to kill a roomful of people.  Atluri's alleged threat was unprovoked and he had no clear connection to the sleep center, police said. Wayne, we are actually given no information about whether any of the people in the store were had concealed carry permits, and under the circumstances, most protocols for handling violent threats safely do not call for threatening right back; that's usually considered a good way to escalate a situation.   more ›
