Bruce Walker's tattoo parlor, which closed in Fair Lawn at the end of October, reopened Tuesday in Saddle Brook.
Just three months after being forced out of Fair Lawn due to skyrocketing rent, Bruce Walker has a shiny new home for his tattoo parlor right in his hometown. Jerzey Tat, which lasted about a year on River Road between Krauszers and Shop-Rite before closing last October, reopened Tuesday in Saddle Brook, tucked away behind Kim Bridge Cardtiques & Florist on busy Market Street. Walker said he's happy with his new spot, which he's secured on a multi-year lease from his landlord, Mayor Karen Chamberlain. "I have my sign in the front now which I didn't have in Fair Lawn," he said. "And being up here" -- Jerzey Tat is housed in a cozy second floor space above Kim Bridge -- "it's like my own little personal studio now, so it's little bit more …

Jerzey Tat, a River Road tattoo parlor that opened last November, will close up shop in Fair Lawn at the end of next month.
Less than a year after opening up shop on River Road, Bruce Walker has decided to take his tattoo business elsewhere. Faced recently with the prospect of a 100 percent rent increase over the next two years, the Saddle Brook resident and owner of Jerzey Tat said that even as the shop has been gaining momentum, he can't justify staying in Fair Lawn. "I’m not established yet, I’m still getting my feet wet. I’m still building my clientele," said Walker, whose last day in Fair Lawn will be Oct. 31. "I don’t have that kind of cash to really put out for what they’re asking, especially for this location." Walker's been paying $1000 per month since he moved into his current location on River Road between Krauszers and Shop-Rite last November. He …

Giovanni Burgos, of Bloomfield, gets a tattoo on his left pec on the morning of Jerzey Tat's grand opening on Dec. 14
Just two days after his girlfriend visited Jerzey Tat to get some work done, Giovanni Burgos returned to the River Road tatoo parlor to get some ink of his own -- a Tupac Shakur quote on his left pec. The quote -- “No matter what these people say about me, my music doesn't glorify any image. My music is spiritual when you listen to it. It's all about emotion, I tell my innermost, darkest secrets," was delivered by Shakur during a 1995 interview from Clinton Correctional Facility, where he was doing time for sexual assault. Burgos, an aspiring hip hop artist from Bloomfield who goes by Lil Gio, said the quote represented, "everything behind my music." "Two days ago I was just going through a whole bunch of poems and quotes, and this was one…

Jerzey Tat, a brand new tattoo parlor located at 16-23 River Road, opened its doors in late November and has being doing steady business ever since, owner Bruce Walker said Wednesday at the shop’s grand opening. “We’ve gotten a great reception from a lot of the town people,” said Walker, a Saddle Brook resident. “Just opening up and having this many customers is a great experience, and it just shows that we’re going to be here for a while.” Walker said the affordable prices and welcoming service are what primarily distinguish Jerzey Tat from its competitors. “We’re not here to rob anybody,” he said. “We treat everyone here like they’re family. You come in the door and you’re going to get greeted. We’re going to take care of you.” Walker …
