Power restoration efforts will continue in both Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook all week, according to PSEG's latest estimates.
PSEG's estimates for when power will be fully restored in Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook extend further with each passing day. In the utility's latest estimates, released Monday morning, crews will continue working on both communities into the weekend. By Sunday, Nov. 11, all but 18 customers in Fair Lawn and 155 in Saddle Brook should be restored. Per PSEG's posted work schedule, crews should work extensively over the next three days in Fair Lawn -- where 38.3 percent of customers are still without power -- restoring all but about 70 unfortunate customers by midnight Wednesday. The vast majority of Saddle Brook customers—85.8 percent—have power, but PSEG will continue restoring power to those still in the dark throughout the week, at a pace …

Monday, Jan. 23 School Board Mulls Moving Elections A board of education discussion Thursday about the short and long-term operational effects of switching school board elections to November left members torn over how to proceed. The discussion came on the heels of last week'ssigning into law of a state bill that lets school districts, municipalities, or public voters decide whether they want to move school board elections from April to November. In addition to the change of date, districts that make the move eliminate the public's right to vote on school budgets within the state's 2 percent cap on tax increases. At Thursday's meeting, superintendent Bruce Watson and each board member took turns sharing their personal stance on whether …

Just over 1,000 homes lost power for about four hours Monday, PSE&G confirmed.
Another day, another power outage in Fair Lawn. About 1,150 customers, concentrated in Radburn, lost power for four hours Monday night, starting just after 5 p.m., PSE&G confirmed. Power was restored in full around 9 p.m. A PSE&G rep said the power outage was caused by two separate incidents -- the failure of an underground cable and a fallen tree that damaged a power line. The outages affected at least two Radburn restaurants that were preparing dishes for Monday's Taste of our Town event at the Community Center. David Kawash, owner of the Radburn Deli, said he was in the middle of cooking the deli's famous wings when everything went dark. A batch of Buffalo and Honey Soy wings were already done, but the rest had to be left behind. …

Monday, Jan. 9 ADA Committee Thrives With Renewed Focus Word is getting out about the Fair Lawn ADA Committee. Until recently, the group, which advocates for community members with disabilities, had seen its membership dwindle and its meetings grow more and more infrequent. But in the last couple years, a few dedicated members have taken the reins and revived the committee, which has since tripled in size. “It’s in the last year or two years it’s really taken a different direction,” committee chairman David Jordan said. “A lot more people have gotten involved. We’ve done a lot of advertising to get the word out that there is such a committee that is out there to help people with disabilities and special needs.” Olga Podolsky, the group’s …

By Tuesday night, PSE&G expects to restore power to all isolated pockets of town that had not yet been restored
Nearly four days of darkness should come to an end Tuesday night for a few hundred Fair Lawn residents living in isolated pockets of town. Mayor Lisa Swain said she learned through her contact at PSE&G that the public utility company expects to have power fully restored to the borough some time after dark Tuesday. Although many residents who had been without power since Saturday woke up with their power restored this morning, Swain said there were still about 500 borough homes still in the dark Tuesday. Swain said that as of Tuesday afternoon, she knew power had yet to return to a small pocket of homes on Sunderland Drive, south of Broadway. To help alleviate the outage, Swain said she reported it to PSE&G, which plans to take care of it …

Snow should begin to melt as Sunday's forecast is sunny with a high of 45
As many as one-third of residents are without power Sunday after Saturday's storm that dumped more than 5 inches of snow on Fair Lawn, according to the latest outage estimates available from PSE&G. Neighboring towns were similarly hard-hit by the double-whammy of downed trees and power lines. By PSE&G estimates, Ridgewood and Paramus both have more than 5,000 residents without power, and Glen Rock, Saddle Brook and Elmwood Park each have more than 2,000 powerless residents. Across the county, PSE&G estimates close to 100,000 outages, at minimum. In a statement early this morning, the utility giant said 297,000 customers statewide were without power. With so many outages to deal with, PSE&G advised that full restoration may not occur until …
