The Fair Lawn Garden Committee sponsored a plant swap Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Recycling Center on Saddle River Road.
Residents and non-residents braved the stormy weather Sunday to take part in a Fair Lawn Garden Committee-sponsored Plant Swap at the Recycling Center on Saddle River Road. Garden Committee chairwoman Jane Spindel said the swap, which ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., attracted plant lovers from Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Ridgewood and even Ringwood, who brought plants to exchange one-for-one, or purchase for $2 each. This year, Young Paek, owner of Cliff Garden Florist, donated 30 lilacs — distributed free to residents — and an additional 10 rebloomers to sell as profit for the committee. The proceeds from Sunday's swap will be used for "greening" Fair Lawn. -- Follow Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook Patch on Facebook and Twitter, and subscribe to receive …

Money to go to balancing the general state budget rather than building houses for low- and middle-income residents
Defying several attempts at killing it off, the New Jersey Council on Affordable Housing met for the first time in more than two years last week to begin the process of taking at least $142 million in funds dedicated to low- and moderate-income housing to help balance the state budget. COAH, which has few friends in the Legislature, was reorganized out of existence in 2011 by Gov. Chris Christie. The council voted 4-1 to ask municipalities to send proof of their plans to spend any money that had been dormant in their affordable housing trust funds for four years as of July 17, 2012 and transfer the remaining, unspent money to the council by May 22, according to the resolution.
