Saddle Brook Schools Reviewing Visitor Entry Policy

Saddle Brook students and parents should expect a change in visitor entry procedures at school buildings once school resumes.

Administrators plan to beef up visitor entry procedures at Saddle Brook schools once classes resume after winter break, according to a letter Superintendent Kathryn Fedina sent home to parents. "There is no doubt that reflection on the recent past requires us to change past practices," the letter states, referencing the recent school shooting in Newtown, Conn. that killed 20 students and six staff. "At this time, I would like to make you aware that there will be a change in procedures for visitor entry into schools following winter break." How about we provide parents with school choice? Let parents decide what acceptable risk is. How about we arm a few teachers and pulicize that we do. Those two things would make all our kids safer.   more ›

Donations Drive Saddle Brook's Italian Studies Program

Three local organizations presented donations totaling $8,000 in support of the school district's Italian Studies program for grades kindergarten through six.

Representatives from three local organizations made donations to support the continuation of Saddle Brook's nascent Italian Studies program at Wednesday's board of education meeting. The Coccia Foundation, Saddle Brook's Unico chapter and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3484 gave a combined $8,000 to the district's Italian program, which started last year in grades kindergarten through six. "We wouldn’t have been able to support the teacher’s salary without the wonderful funds that we’ve gotten from these wonderful organizations," Superintendent Kathryn Fedina said, thanking the organizations for their generosity.
